Always at least half of the prominent people at the conferences would have been his former students, and everybody admired him -- but he would always take time out to talk personally to everyone, showing more than just polite interest in the work of us lowly grad students. Not only that, he suffered very greatly in the stupid 'Red Scare' <BR/>Countries too often abuse most those citizens who can do the most to build understanding with their 'enemies'.
